My husband and I were sitting in the living room reminiscing about when we first met and when we started dating. Back then I remember him being so sweet and so nervous. We were both nervous on our first date; we sit back and laugh at it now. I had asked him if he was dating women a lot and how did it go for him. He was telling me that he wasn't dating women all that much before he met me. He said that he really wasn't the type of guy that had a lot of girlfriends. He would have a girlfriend, and kept a relationship with her for a long time. He didn't date a girl for a month and then go on to the next girl. Usually he stayed with the girls he met and really likes. I liked that about him, because I was exactly the same way. I didn't date much, but when I did, I usually stayed with that guy for a long time. I like relationships to work well, and I try to make things work between us. If I feel like the relationship isn't working, then we end it.

We were talking about the time he was dating women before he had met me. This one woman he was seeing would ask him about his proposal to her for marriage. He had no intention of asking this woman to marry him. He didn't know why she was asking him this. They hadn't discussed marriage or anything. She just wanted to push things way to fast. He ended up breaking up with her the following week.

For my husband, dating women back then was not fun, that is how he puts it. I love the idea having someone in my life, but the dating process of it wasn't fun for me. I just hated going on so many first dates. I like the process of getting to know that special someone better versus getting to know a whole bunch of people better. I love making new friends but the dating scene was not for me. And my husband feels the same way. I often tell him that it was too bad we didn't meet when we were in our 20's so we wouldn't have had to go through all of that. We would just have met and been married for over 15 years. But we feel fortunate and happy that we have each other now.
