Lou tossed around in bed; he could not sleep but he must not get up either, or else his wife, Ivy would be questioning, or rather interrogating him about his restlessness. She had always been suspicious of him and tried to monitor his every move.

It was so quiet and peaceful at this time, withoutthe sounds of noisy children or the high-pitched non-stop prattling of his wife. He looked at her, snoring away. She’s getting fatter by the day, and couldn’t care less, he thought. When their first child was born, she had exercised and looked after her diet. In a moment of drunken bravado, he had given her a hug and told her that her looks had not matter; he would stay by her through thin and thick. Ivy took it literally and went thick. Oh boy, if only she knew that what really mattered was her money.

Ivy has a rich father and will most probably inherit a third of his money. Lou supposed that if Ivy were penniless, she would most probably have ended up an old maid. With her unpleasant disposition and looks, it would be difficult to find a husband.

Her family were unbearably snobbish, especially her mother. That high-handed, stiff-necked witch had often snubbed Lou’s mother. Furthermore Ivy made no pretence that she looked down on his family. If they were to delve deep inside each other’s heart, they would know the true reasons for their marriage. Lou married Ivy because of her money; Ivy, because no one else would have her.

If he becomes rich one day, he would probably boot her out, and do anything he wishes, go anywhere he wants. Like now, he could have gone to the study and log onto his computer. Go online and pay a visit to those dating websites, which he had not accessed for some time.

Lou smiled as he recalled his ladies at the dating websites. He had subscribed to a number of them; and had lots of responses as he had posted up really impressive profiles. At one of the dating websites, he had presented himself as a successful entrepreneur with overseas ventures; at other dating websites he had changed that to either businessman, vice president of sales or some grand sounding professions. His favourite businesses? Of course those he was familiar with, web site development or driving schools. Now he had another to add - skip hire and waste management.

on-line dating was one of the few activities he had enjoyed. He did not have to spend much money and could hide behind the false identities that he created. Too bad he could not indulge in that now!
